Joe McCaskey





Joe has been Falls Shotokan's Head Sensei since 1996 when he founded the club. Since then, he has taught hundreds of students and has even helped other Sensei's start their dojos!​

Sensei Joe has been training since 1984 and still learns something from all the students he teaches, and he looks forward to learning from you!



Shotokan





History



This style of martial arts was founded by Gichin Funakoshi in the late 1800s. This style combines two different styles, Shorin-ryu and Shorei-ryu, into one.



Kihon



Kihon is the foundation of this style. In English kihon means basics. This is the stances, blocks, punches, kicks, and strikes. New students will learn these first.



Kata



Kata is the performance piece of Shotokan. Once a student had a good foundation of kihon, they will move to learning katas while still practicing their kihon.



kumite



Kumite is the fun part of Shotokan. That is, kumite means sparring, or controlled fighting. This helps students put their kihon and katas to practice in a safe environment. (Falls Shotokan allows yellow belts and up to start participating in kumite)

Classes run on Monday and Wednesday nights from 7:15pm until 8:45pm. The class fees are $45 a month, along with an added charge of $45 for insurance so that the students can stay safe and protected while training!
